For Caitlin Dwyer, the owner and head baker of Flour and Sun Bakery on Washington Avenue, a passion has flourished into a successful business.
“When I was a kid, I used to bake with my mom and grandma, especially during the holidays. I loved to bake Christmas cookies,” said Dwyer.
The passion for cookies still runs through Dwyer’s blood. If you walk into her bakery, you can find cookies that Dwyer and her talented team decorate by hand. Although the bakery has now expanded to baking many different goods, Flour and Sun first specialized in baking cupcakes. Their cupcakes have even won awards.
“We’ve won the Best of Westchester award four or five times now,” said Dwyer.
Dwyer learned how to bake from her family, but she also went to school to learn more about her craft. She graduated from the Baking and Pastry Arts and Food Service Management program at Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island.
The crew at Flour and Sun also cater events. The biggest event the bakery has catered was the Best of Westchester event last year, when the bakery had to bake samples of their work for people to try.
And if you’re wondering what Dwyer’s favorite item is… “Probably French macarons. We have them fresh every Friday and Saturday.”
