Lobsters and clams and oysters, oh my! This December, an under the sea experience in Pleasantville will be bigger. Bistro 146, a seafood grille located at 146 Bedford Road, is expanding.
Owner/chef Marcelo Cheque has taken over the space next to the current restaurant, which was formerly a nail salon. There will be more seating next door, as well as a second bathroom. Bistro 146 originally opened in 2012. Cheque said the restaurant has had little room for large parties. It currently seats up to 35 people. With the new expansion, Cheque is hoping to seat 60 to 70 people. He said the extra room will also allow him to cook bigger portions, especially of lobster. Aside from seating, Marcelo plans to hire more staff, put in a wine bar and add more kid and family-friendly items to the menu.
“We are going to add pasta to the menu,” he said. “I have one pasta now. And probably add some sliders, people like that. And one chicken dish, stuff like that.”
In order to complete the expansion, Cheque had to submit proposals through the Pleasantville Planning Commission. Cheque said the expansion will be done in stages. Phase one is the second bathroom, phase two is seating and phase three is the interior design and lights outside. Cheque said he believes the expansion will bring more people into Pleasantville and his restaurant. He said patrons come from all over Westchester County and often stop by the Bistro after going to the Jacob Burns Film Center.
Pace University student Hailey Pasterchick has never been to Bistro 146, but after hearing word of the expansion, is interested in going.
“I would be excited to try it out. I honestly never heard of it before, but the menu sounds great!”
