One position on the Mount Pleasant Town Board is on the ballot today.
Republican Anthony Amiano was four years old when his parents moved the family to the Mount Pleasant area for a better school district. Twenty years later, at only 24 years old, Amiano was selected to fill a Town Board spot. He is now running to keep that position for another year. Running against him is Democrat Francesca Hagadus of Pleasantville, who was profiled on our site last week.
Amiano was selected in June to fill a spot for former Councilman Mark Rubeo, who became Town Justice. The winner of today’s election will fill the position for one year and would have to run next year again for a full four-year term.
Amiano said he continually hears “why I am getting involved so young?” He said he responds: “my record of community service is a positive.”
He has a thick history in politics, serving on the Valhalla Union Free School District Board of Education and the Westchester County Parks Board. Amiano is a graduate of Manhattan College, where he studied Communication and Government.
Amiano has three top priorities if he wins. One is to “ensure the town is living within its means.” During his time on the Valhalla Board of Education, he said his district was able to stay within the budget, with the average tax increase only being 1.87 percent.
Amiano said his second priority is “the smart economic development that will benefit the community, first responders, and environment.” And the third is revitalizing downtown areas.
