The Pleasantville Union Free School District has updated its immunization requirements to reflect new requirements under state law. Earlier this year, in response to increasing measles outbreaks, state lawmakers repealed a law that allowed non-medical exemptions, including religious exemptions.

Pleasantville Schools Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter sent out a letter to all parents regarding the immunization policy for the 2019-2020 school year. The required vaccinations for all students include Varicella, Polio, MMR, Hepatitis B, Diphtheria, Tetanus-Toxoid containing, Pertussis, and Meningitis. The letter also includes the proper dosages required for each specific age group. Schools must have all documentation of student immunizations as well as documentation of those students with medical exemptions.

All students are required to receive all necessary vaccines within the first 14 days of the school year. Once those vaccinations are given, children must prove that any follow-up appointments for second dosages, if necessary, are scheduled within 30 years after the first day of school or daycare program.

Students at Pace University must also have their required vaccinations in order to register for classes. If students do not show proof of their immunization records, they will be restricted from registration and attending classes until those requirements are fulfilled. For Pace students, the required vaccinations are Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccinations unless students can show immunity to those three illnesses through a blood test.

Any medical exemptions must be documented every year including the specific vaccinations, the reason for their exemption and for how long the student will be exempt from those immunizations. If these required immunizations were received by the student in another location in NY, the documentation must be obtained or students must prove their immunization through blood tests.
