Halloween Costume Swap Returns to Memorial Plaza

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — Pleasantville’s annual Halloween costume swap-off has returned. From 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the fifth and 12th of October, the town’s Halloween Costume Swap serves as a recycled resource platform where anyone may bring reusable costumes to the Memorial Plaza Gazebo to donate, and receive one for themselves and their child or children in return.

“Our motivation is to recycle old or gently used costumes and encourage reuse,” said Andrea Garbarini with Pleasantville Recycles, which organizes the costume swap.

The organization holds other events as well. Its sports equipment swap, for example, uses the same format as the costume swap but provides equipment for students who are not able to purchase them. Pleasantville Recycles also organizes community tag sales, and recently hosted a Fix-It Café, where people were encouraged to bring in broken appliances or ripped garments so they could have them prepared and reused.

“Basically, the events are geared around making sure that products within the community you’re no longer using can get a second life with some who’s interested in them,” explained Bridget Egan, also a volunteer member of Pleasantville Recycles.

Pleasantville Recycles recruits volunteers on its Facebook page and website.
