Pleasantville has conducted another test of its Code Red system.
Since 2013, Pleasantville has had a contract with with a company known as Code Red Notification Systems.
Following Hurricane Sandy, during which Pleasantville residents lost power for up to 14 days, Code Red was brought in by Mayor Peter Scherer. The system plays a helping hand in notifying Pleasantville residents about incoming hurricanes, snowstorms, road closures, downed trees, and other disasters that could affect daily life.
Although the system has not been used yet, it is tested every September to ensure citizens are receiving the notifications.
This system is seen as a better option than using landlines, which may be unavailable if power is cut off. Village officials have said that Code Red will only be used in an emergency. It does not cost anything to subscribe to the alerts.
As of September 2017, just under 800 people have subscribed to the service–roughly a tenth of village residents. If you have not already subscribed, you may do so through a link on the Village page or going directly to the Code Red website.
