Alexandra Ciarcia; remembering a friend, daughter and remarkable writer

A Pleasantville High School graduate was found dead on September 21 in a SUNY Geneseo sorority house.

Alexandra Ciarcia’s death was ruled as unsuspicious. It is believed that her passing was due to a pre-existing health condition.

Originally from Northborough, Massachusetts, Ciarcia was raised in the village of Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School in 2014. During her four years at Pleasantville High School, she was a member of the field hockey team, as well as the softball team. She then went on to attend SUNY Geneseo as a communications major.

Throughout her college career, Ciarcia was a remarkable student. She made the Dean’s list for all six semesters of her college education. She also served at the managing editor of the Lamron, SUNY Geneseo’s student newspaper. Her drive and passion for writing led to he being awarded the John V. Lynn ’83 Memorial Annual scholarship in journalism.

Ciarcia was “a talented and dependable writer,” said David Irwin, the media relations director at SUNY Geneseo’s Communications and Marketing Office, where Ciarcia interned. Circa wrote press releases, as well as assisted in writing weekly art and cultural lists.

Not only did Circa excel in school, she was also president of her sorority, Phi Lambda Chi. “It was her contagious laugh and her constant support, love and happiness every day of her life that I will miss more than anything,” said Stephanie Resila, one of Ciarcia’s sorority sisters.

Ciarcia is survived by her younger brother Chris and her father Dennis Ciarcia.

Ciarcia had been set to graduate in the spring.
