Pace University may add new shuttle route to Thornwood

The Rose Hill Shopping Center is one of the many stops on the planned route.

Pace University faculty and students recently received an email with the subject line “Very Important Information for You!” The email turned out to be about a possible new shuttle route between the Pleasantville campus and businesses in Thornwood. The email included a link to a survey by Pace University’s Student Government Association.

Jadiel Martin, the SGA’s Vice President of Administration, has been working with Pace’s Transportation team to create the route. Options would include access to Shop-Rite, CVS, Walgreens, McDonalds, and other places that are currently most accessible by car.

As of now, Pace shuttle buses operate between campus and the village of Pleasantville, where there are not as many food options – especially ones that are open past 9 p.m.

“I want to open more options to students, in terms of commerce. And Pleasantville has some nice places… but I feel like we’re limited when it comes to grocery shopping.” said Martin.

In addition to creating the new route, Martin is also talking with restaurant owners about incorporating Flex Dollars into their payment options. Flex Dollars allow students to use their meal plans to buy food off campus.

“It is going to widen the Pace community, so instead of Pace being involved with only the Pleasantville community, we are also being involved with towns nearby,” Martin said.

Martin hopes to receive at least 500 responses to the survey.
