New court surface. Brand new, vibrant court color. These are just a couple of the changes planned for the Foxwoods tennis courts in Pleasantville during the spring. In a project led by Brewster-based construction company Sport Tech Construction, the courts will undergo a $29,500 rehabilitation and redevelopment.

Sport Tech specializes in everything from baseball and soccer fields, to running track for track and field.

The publicly-funded project was formally approved on Monday, Oct. 22, by the village Board of Trustees.

“[The board] put out the project as a public bid,” said Mike Edgerton, president of Sport Tech Acrylics. “And, since we offered the lowest bid, they called us sometime last week and told us that we got the job.”

Even though the project was approved a week ago, Sport Tech doesn’t plan to actually start on it until the spring.

“A lot of our projects, including this one, are dependent on the weather,” Edgerton said. “So, we should be able to start by the end of April or the beginning of May.”

Edgerton visited the courts recently. He said that, since they are in somewhat good shape, the project should not take more than 10 working days.

“First, we’ll power wash the surface of the courts, with a tool that looks like a lawnmower,” Edgerton said. “After power washing, we’ll fill the cracks in the asphalt using Armor Crack. Finally, we’ll repaint the court using Laykold. We plan it to repaint it blue, to make the court look more like the ones at the U.S. Open.” He said the courts could be ready to re-open as soon as 24 hours after the work is finished.

Since this is a relatively small project, Edgerton plans to have only a three-man crew work on the project. Here is a sample of what the finished product may look like:
