Get to know Pleasantville: Mayor Peter Scherer

Mayor Peter Scherer has been in politics for the last 25 years, including 11 years as Pleasantville’s mayor and seven years as a trustee.

Among what Scherer considers his major accomplishments: “steering the Village through some major challenges and avoiding the partisan divides that are often seen, even in local politics,” he said. “We’ve undertaken lots of good projects, kept tax increases low, and the Village is in a strong, stable financial position.

“Our downtown is thriving, our reputation as a good place to live is strong, and we have lots of people interested in living, working, shopping, and eating here.”

Scherer has not decided whether he would run for office again when his current term expires in 2021, though he is not opposed to the idea. He said he thinks his historical perspective on Pleasantville has been useful in office.

Scherer said he spends his free time diving into his love for photography and sport, including following the Westchester Knicks in the NBA G League. You might also catch him enjoying one of Pace University’s sporting events.

Among places you may find Scherer is the Pleasantville Diner, one of his favorite places in the village. He said he and his wife went there on their first visit to the village in 1996.
