If you’ve walked through Memorial Plaza lately, it’s hard to miss the large construction area next to the post office. The Pleasantville Lofts project is expected to bring 78 apartments and 137 parking spaces to 70 Memorial Plaza.
Pleasantville Building Inspector Robert Hughes said he thinks this new addition to the village can provide many benefits, including to the local economy.
“I think this new addition will be a very good vibe for the entire area,” Hughes said. “It will surely help with taxes and businesses.”
This new high-end apartment building will have four flours, with retailers on the first floor and parking for residents underground. The building will have a 24-hour doorman.
“This new apartment building is attracting a lot of retirees and younger professionals. It’s also very convenient because you wouldn’t have to maintain anything,” Hughes said. “The investors have also been talking about making shorter leases for college students.”
Hughes said the property had been of interest to investors for many months.
“Zoning for municipalities has been going on for years. This is to ensure that every business and residential area are in designated places.” Hughes explained.
A Pace University student was enthusiastic about the new development. “I think this will be a great addition to the village and will give Pleasantville the chance to bring in a younger crowd,” said Madyllene Rodrigues. “This is very exciting.”
