For more than 20 years, Bill Flooks has been a reassuring and familiar figure in Pleasantville. Flooks owns Beecher Flooks Funeral Home on Bedford Road.
Flooks “always wanted to become a funeral home director,” he said. His father owned a funeral home in New York City, and Flooks said he always knew he wanted to follow in his footsteps. Now, Flooks’ son appears to be on the same path, working at the Pleasantville funeral home.
The work is not easy. Flooks said the schedule can be unpredictable, and hours long. And the job can be emotional. “You have to be the strong person for that family when they come in,” he said, But serving that role can be rewarding. “Hearing the client say you made this process easy for me” makes him enjoy what he does.
Flooks said he tries to be involved with the community as much as he can so he is not just known as the owner of the funeral home. He has served as president of the Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce since 2007.
