{"id":2069,"date":"2019-11-03T10:37:52","date_gmt":"2019-11-03T15:37:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pleasantvillepress.com\/?p=2069"},"modified":"2019-11-17T15:22:57","modified_gmt":"2019-11-17T20:22:57","slug":"votes-of-the-rich-and-famous","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pleasantvillepress.com\/index.php\/2019\/11\/03\/votes-of-the-rich-and-famous\/","title":{"rendered":"Votes of the Rich and Famous"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although New York lawmakers have taken a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityandstateny.com\/articles\/policy\/policy\/new-york-makes-moves-against-restrictive-voting-laws.html\">preliminary step<\/a> toward no-excuse absentee voting, the state constitution still limits the types of reasons deemed acceptable for voters to be away from the polls on Election Day.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To vote absentee, you must first apply. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/citizenparticipation.westchestergov.com\/voting\/absentee-ballots\">You may vote by absentee ballot if you will be<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Unavoidably absent from\nyour county on Election Day<\/li><li>Unable to appear at the\npolls due to illness or disability<\/li><li>A patient in a veteran\u2019s\nadministration hospital<\/li><li>Detained in jail\nawaiting grand jury action or confined in prison after conviction of an offense\nother than a felony.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Westchester County is home to several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lohud.com\/story\/entertainment\/people\/suburbarazzi\/2018\/04\/26\/film-stars-billionaires-hudson-valley\/553312002\/\">famous people<\/a>. If the conditions above do not apply to them, do they vote in person? Do their appearances in public cause a stir?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jill Shapiro, the town administrator of New Castle, said some famous residents, including Bill and Hillary Clinton and Governor Andrew Cuomo,  have shown up on Election Day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The press does show up and take pictures, she said. However, the Clintons and Cuomo have been \u201cvigilant voters \u2026 they are regular voters, they don\u2019t miss an election.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shapiro said famous people often bring security with them.
