The Dad’s Club of Pleasantville held its 10th annual P-Daddy golf outing at the Pleasantville Country Club Oct. 4. The fundraiser was part of a joint benefit with The Community Scholarship Fund of Pleasantville and the Pleasantville Fund for Learning. The day of golf began at 1:00 p.m. followed by a cocktail reception at 6:15 p.m.

The name of the fundraiser is a play on P. Diddy, one of many stage names used by rapper/entrepreneur Sean Combs. The outing was founded in 2009 by five men: Armand D’Angelo, Larry Boes, Kieran Moran, Sal Doto and Chris Morea. That year, the outing had a turnout of 17 people and raised $500 total. Every year since then, the amount raised has increased, as has the group’s methods of raising money, such as flag and hole sponsors and raffles.

Morea said that when the event started, the fundraising was targeted for the graduating class of 2020, as most of the founders’ children were expected to graduate that year. By the second year, the group decided to rebrand, and the funds were given to the Community Scholarship Fund of Pleasantville and the Pleasantville Fund for Learning to be distributed as need-based scholarships.

“We’re a grassroots organization of dads that want to help our town and the kids in it,” Morea said. He said their goal each year is to beat the previous year’s total. Last year, the event raised $9,130.

Morea said this year’s outing had a total of 58 golfers, which was maximum capacity for the Pleasantville Country Club. The total amount raised has yet to be released.
