P’ville Music Festival tradition continues this July

Small name bands on the rise often play at the Pleasantville Music Festival.

The date for the 16th annual Pleasantville Music Festival was announced this week. ‘New York’s Backyard Jam’ is set for July 11 in Parkway Field.

“The Pleasantville Music Festival benefits the community in many ways,” Bruce Figler, the head of festival, said. “Firstly, it provides a great day of entertainment and fun for village families to participate in without having to leave the village. Secondly, it helps contribute to the perception that Pleasantville is a wonderful place to live and is very culturally-focused.”

The festival reflects the atmosphere of the family oriented village. From a kids play zone to a wine and beer garden, the festival offers an array of activities. The festival has a zero-waste program and various charities are present.

A “Battle of the Bands” takes place each year to determine who will kick off the festival. There is an acoustic stage inside the “Chill Tent,” a stage for new and upcoming artists in the “Party Tent” and well-known performers on their main stage.

“Pleasantville is a diverse community,” said Landa LaMotta, public relations director for the music festival. “Our festival reflects some of that.”

The music festival brings in music lovers from all over the county.

“It brings people from out of town into the village who might ordinarily not be coming,” said Bruce Figler, the head of the festival. “These people spend money at village businesses while they’re here for the festival and often will return after experiencing what Pleasantville offers.”

It is a popular event among locals, as well.

“It is a great community event with lots of food, music and socialization,” Pleasantville resident and Pace University student Madison Spears said. “It’s always great to see some of the rising talent from this area at the music festival each year.”

Last summer’s festival brought national acts such as such as Soul Asylum and Everclear, along with newcomers including Bailen and Nashville’s The New Respects. The 2020 lineup will be released in late winter or early spring.
