Get to know Pleasantville: Peggy Galotti

Peggy Galotti has been the principal of Bedford Road School for the last 10 years. Prior to that, she was a curriculum coordinator, kindergarten teacher, and assistant principal.

Galotti earned a Bachelor of Science degree in teaching from SUNY Cortland, and her masters in early childhood education from Western Connecticut State College. She also earned her certificate in school administration from the College of New Rochelle.

Galotti has always worked within the Pleasantville Union Free School District, and said she enjoys the many unique aspects of the district.

“When I landed here 30 years ago, I had no idea what an incredible community Pleasantville was,” Galotti said. “It is unique in so many ways: a walking district, one elementary school, a district that equally celebrates arts, academics and athletics. It is truly a village where everyone helps raise your child.”

Galotti had numerous family members who worked within the school district, including her father and brother who served as custodians, and aunts and cousins who were teachers. This inspired her to pursue a career in education, because she shared a love for kids, learning, and reading with her family members.

She said her love of reading and books also led her to focus on younger, elementary-level children instead of middle or high school level.

“The best part of my job is being with the kids,” Galotti said.

The most challenging aspect of Galotti’s job, she said, is ensuring every student is safe and becomes a confident learner.

Galotti’s favorite moments during the school day are playing with the kids during recess.

“My proudest moment happens each year at fourth grade graduation,” she said. “When I look at all my kids, and know they are ready for the challenges of middle school.”
